Colmatiss · Sauvignon Friuli Colli Orientali DOP 2024

  La Tunella's “Colmatìss” Sauvignon is an outstanding white wine from Colli Orientali del Friuli, a region in Friuli known for its excellent Sauvignon Blanc wines. The name “Colmatìss” is derived from the Friulian term “colmatìss,” which means ‘filled’ or “filled up” and refers to the geological features of the vineyard. The vines grow on typical “Ponca” soils—calcareous marl and sandstone layers from the Eocene epoch that give the wine its minerality and structure. The grapes come from three small plots planted in 1980 in the municipality of Cividale del Friuli, known for their optimal exposure and microclimate.

The wine is made according to the traditional Friulian method: after gentle pressing, the must ferments in stainless steel tanks at a controlled temperature. Aging on the fine lees also takes place in stainless steel to preserve the freshness and fruitiness of the Sauvignon Blanc. The result is a clear, straw-yellow wine with greenish reflections and an intense bouquet of elderflower, sage, ripe gooseberries, white pepper, and wet stone. On the palate, Colmatìss displays precise fruit, supported by a fine saltiness and lively acidity that give it length and character.
