  The “Nama” Chardonnay from Nals Margreid is an exclusive white wine made from 30 to 40-year-old Chardonnay vines in the municipality of Magrè in the South Tyrolean Unterland. The vines thrive on calcareous clay-gravel soils at an altitude of 300 to 400 meters above sea level, with a south to southeast exposure. The Mediterranean climate with hot summers and mild winters, as well as the warm afternoon winds, create ideal conditions for the ripening of these grapes. After selective hand harvesting, fermentation takes place in small oak barrels, followed by 18 months of aging on the fine lees. The wine then matures for a further three months in stainless steel tanks and at least one year in the bottle before being released onto the market.

In the glass, the Nama Chardonnay presents itself in a bright, golden straw yellow. The bouquet is intense and complex, with aromas of ripe peaches, honey, baked apple, caramel, and a hint of smoke. On the palate, the wine is full-bodied and creamy, with a fine acidity structure and a mineral note. The finish is long and elegant. This wine is excellent with dishes such as lobster, roast veal, or mature cheese. Due to its limited production of only about 2,000 bottles per year, Nama Chardonnay is a true collector's item. - Gerardo [TS10/22]
