Lagrein Riserva DOC 2021

  The Lagrein Riserva from the Pfannenstielhof winery in South Tyrol is an impressive homage to the indigenous Lagrein grape variety - an uncompromising top wine from the vineyard to the wood-aged refinement. The grapes come from deep, warm alluvial soils on the Eisack, whose stony subsoil is excellently aerated. After selective hand harvesting, maceration takes place with gentle punching down of the cap, followed by around 24 months in barriques, tonneaux, and medium-sized wooden barrels - a sign of the uncompromising quality of the Riserva line.

In the glass, Lagrein Riserva unfolds a deep dark purple color that radiates both concentration and elegance. The nose is filled with aromas of ripe wild berries, blackberries, and cassis, accompanied by delicate spice notes such as nutmeg and a hint of white pepper, underpinned by noble roasted aromas and delicate leather tones. On the palate, the wine reveals velvety tannins, a powerful structure and a smooth presence: chocolate, dark fruit and a fine acidity combine to create a lingering finish that promises great aging potential. - Gerardo [TS10/22]
