The addition of the name expresses appreciation for the soil on which this Lagrein grows. The result is a fruity, rich and powerful Lagrein, with delicacy and elegance, but also structure and density and particularly pleasant, velvety tannins. "However, it is now not only St. Magdalener that Pfeifer produces. On the gently sloping southern slopes around the farm, he has also increasingly grown Lagrein. On the warm, sandy alluvial soils, this variety finds ideal growing conditions. The basic Lagrein is fermented in stainless steel tanks and then aged for six to eight months in medium-sized wooden barrels. It is dark ruby red in color and captivates with immense fruitiness, without the bitter notes otherwise so often found in Lagrein." - Dr. Jens Priewe
