Ornello · Rosso Toscana DOC 2022

  The Ornello Rosso Toscana DOC from Rocca di Frassinello is a powerful yet elegant red wine cuvée that combines four classic grape varieties: approximately 40% Sangiovese, 20% Syrah, 20% Cabernet Sauvignon, and 20% Merlot. The wine comes from vineyards in Gavorrano, in the Maremma Toscana, at around 90 meters above sea level. The soil is interspersed with scree (“rich in skeleton”), which, together with the Mediterranean climate and warm days and cooler nights, creates ideal conditions for a balance between ripeness and freshness.

Ornello is first vinified in stainless steel tanks, followed by approximately six months of aging in barriques, some new and some used. Malolactic fermentation is carried out to give it soft tannins and a smooth structure. In the glass, it displays an intense ruby red color. The nose reveals balsamic notes, roasted coffee, and red fruits, accompanied by herbs and earthy aromas. On the palate, it is full-bodied, warm, and smooth, with velvety tannins and a rich, lingering finish.
