The Negroamaro as well as Malvasia Nera grapes for this Salice Salentino Riserva are traditionally raised according to the Alberello system. 'Anticaia' is then aged for 24 months in barrique barrels to develop its unique aroma: the delicate bouquet is reminiscent of fruit under alcohol with subtle notes of spicy herbs and toasted aromas. The palate is dry, soft and of present but mild tannins. A Salice as it used to be. - Gerardo [TS02/19]

  Gerardo's Notes: Salice Salentino is one of Italy's great classics and has had DOC/DOP status since 1976. The red wines that go with it come from the provinces of Lecce and Brindisi, and the regulations stipulate a proportion of 75% Negroamaro grapes, with a maximum addition of 25% of other red grape varieties (mostly Malvasia Nera). The Riserva version matures in oak barrels for at least two years, and for some winemakers up to four years.

Typical of all 'Anticaia' wines is the traditional, Apulian style: fruit-driven with hints of cooked plums and jam.
