Camillo Montori Camillo Montori

Camillo Montori | Abruzzo

Camillo Montori winery is one of the top wineries in the renowned Abruzzo wine region, especially as far as the hills of Teramo, on the border with the Marches, are concerned. Here, as in the rest of the production area, Trebbiano and Montepulciano d'Abruzzo - the latter as red and rosé wine (Cerasuolo) - are produced above all. The hills of Teramo (Colline Teramane) offer particularly suitable conditions, a fact that today is also recognized by the corresponding DOC decree, which grants this area its own DOC area. A strong motivation and the will to overcome the handicap in the form of an image defined by large production volumes and low qualities, which for years characterized the regional viticulture, allowed Montori to make his wines known far beyond the regional borders. - Gerardo [TS04/24]

"This winery represents a synonym for Colline Teramane, at the same time it is one of the most important birthmothers of the local DOCG. Its location is in the very north of Abruzzo, on a line with the river Tronto, which forms the border with the Marche. The grape plantation of 50 hectares is cultivated with peasant thoroughness, the old cellar in Controguerra leave wines of traditional style." - Gambero Rosso

The indigenous Pecorino grape variety gives rise to this white wine full of character: the Casa version is slightly more delicate than Montori's Pecorino from the Fonte Cupa line, while being more accessible. Its color is a brilliant pale yellow, the bouquet is reminiscent of tropical fruits and some grapefruit, fresh and lively on the palate. - Gerardo [TS04/24]

´Fonte Cupa´ · Pecorino Colli Aprutini IGT 2022, Camillo Montori, Abruzzen
Fonte Cupa · Pecorino Colli Aprutini IGT 2022

Camillo Montori, Abruzzo

The native mountain grape variety Pecorino gives rise to this unique white wine: fresh, straw-yellow color in the glass. The bouquet is floral and reminiscent of hawthorn and some banana. Balanced on the palate, with a subtle minerality and well-integrated acidity. - Gerardo [TS04/23]

"Simply one of the best of the region is the Pecorino. It is necessary to know that Camillo Montori was the first to believe in the value of this autochthonous vine in this production zone. It imparts the characteristic, nervy bouquet; taste-wise, the result is a pleasing, but by no means banal white." - Gambero Rosso

Fonte Cupa · Montepulciano d' Abruzzo Colline Teramane DOC 2018

Camillo Montori, Abruzzo

Montori's best known Montepulciano is concentrated ruby red in color. The nose is intense of ripe fruit with subtle undertones of undergrowth and vanilla. The palate is well structured, tannic and persistent. Characteristic is the echo of bitter almonds. - Gerardo [TS04/19]

"Typical and pleasant the Montepulciano Fonte Cupa with a smoky undertone in its soft olfactory voice. The aroma from the large barrels in which it has undergone its training has risen without interference in the full, juicy structure." - Gambero Rosso

The traditional, typical making of this vine is embodied in Montepulciano d'Abruzzo, with its mineral bouquet and juicy, smooth taste. A linear red, but of great character and fascinating, as only a few old school wines are capable of being." - Gambero Rosso

Camillo Montori | Abruzzo | Buy at Gerardo

The river Tronto divides the hilly area around Teramo and Ascoli Piceno like a natural border between the regions of Marche and Abruzzo. The river's course unites the regions more than it separates them: the wild and romantic landscapes are the result of two overlapping ecosystems, the first characterized by relatively flat and fertile land, the second by chains of hills overlooking the Adriatic coast. The hills in the north of the province of Teramo are particularly suitable for wine production in Abruzzo. This has been confirmed more recently by the introduction of the DOCG Colline Teramane, a prestigious award for Italy's high quality wines. Camillo Montori's winery is located in the middle of this very zone and is one of the pioneers and influencers on wine quality in the Colline Teramane.

The vineyards of Camillo Montori are consequently planted mainly with Montepulciano d' Abruzzo, which accounts for 26 hectares of the farm. In addition, the indigenous white grape variety Trebbiano is also planted on just under 10 hectares. The remaining vineyards are equally divided into plantings of Pecorino, Passerina, Chardonnay, Sauvignon, Sangiovese, Merlot and Cabernet. The winery produces essentially two main lines of wine: The less expensive line 'Casa Montori' and the more upscale line 'Poderi di Fonte Cupa'. The grapes from the second line come from selected single vineyards as well as from historic vines.

Camillo Montori is considered an old-timer of the region and has been instrumental in the creation and realization of the DOCG Colline Teramane. In addition, he showed decisive commitment to the creation of the third DOC zone of Abruzzo - the Controguerra production area. In this environment, rich in history and culture, lie the vineyards of Camillo Montori, where more recently the rediscovered Pecorino grape variety has been cultivated. The winery is based on a close contact with its own land and continues the family tradition in the old spirit, not without renouncing new technology and modern oenology. In the newly built winery are processed exclusively the grapes from their own vineyards. - Gerardo [TS04/24]
