The Fontodi winery, run by Giovanni Manetti, is located in the heart of the Chianti Classico region, just below the picturesque village of Panzano. With almost 80 hectares of vineyards, it is one of the most important wineries in the region. Even at first glance, it is clear that great wines are produced here: The Conca d'Oro - one of the most famous vineyards in Tuscany - opens up directly in front of the estate gate. This golden hollow nestles against the slopes like a natural amphitheater and offers ideal conditions for the cultivation of Sangiovese.
The “Flaccianello della Pieve” is the flagship of the estate and is considered one of the best red wines in Italy. It all began rather unspectacularly: in 1968, the Manetti family acquired the then abandoned property - there had been no viticulture there until then. The winery now produces around 400,000 bottles per year and enjoys worldwide recognition. The focus is always on uncompromising quality. High yields are deliberately avoided in order to maximize the expressiveness and depth of the wines.
This philosophy is reflected in every step of the process - from organic viticulture to careful hand-picking and vinification in the cellar. The team is supported by the renowned oenologist Franco Bernabei, one of Italy's leading wine consultants. He has been with Fontodi for many years and plays a key role in shaping the style of the wines: powerful, elegant and with impressive longevity.
