Fontodi | Tuscany
The Fontodi winery, run by Giovanni Manetti, covers almost 80 hectares and is located in the heart of the Chianti Classico area below Panzano. Even at first glance, one suspects that one of the best red wines in Italy grows here, the 'Flaccianello della Pieve'. Just outside the gate of the winery stretches the Conca d'Oro, a cru site that hugs the mountain like an amphitheater and is planted with Sangiovese. In 1968, the Manetti family purchased the abandoned property, where no wine had been produced until then. Today, nearly 400,000 bottles of the world-famous Tuscan wine are produced here. Fontodi's philosophy is to keep yields low in order to increase quality. The winery's oenological consultant is Franco Bernabei, who is one of the elite winemakers in Italy. - Gerardo
"It is the destiny of all innovators to eventually become one of the classics. Such is the case of this winery, a Manetti family enterprise that claims a permanent place in the history of Chianti Classico as a great innovator. Its production facilities are located in the Conca d'Oro, where powerful, sun-drenched wines with a long life are produced. To leave plenty of room for the terroir, the Manetti switched to non-invasive working methods." - Gambero Rosso
"This winery is confirmed year after year as one of the best wineries in the area, thanks also to the dynamic owner Giovanni Manetti, who in the last 30 years has literally projected the winery to the top of quality in the Chianti area. Flaccianello della Pieve remains a great classic, Vigna del Sorbo, which has become Gran Selezione, is by far one of the best expressions of its territory." - Doctor Wine (Danielle Cernilli)
