Red Wine | 50-55 Euros

Exclusively from blue grapes Italian red wine is produced. Red wine differs not only in the grape varieties used, but also in the production process. The pressed, initially more colorless juice of the grapes undergoes alcoholic fermentation during the mash, which, among other things, dissolves the red color pigments. Short maceration results in red wines with a fruity character, which tend to be drunk young and not stored. As the maceration progresses, the amount of dissolved color pigments, tannins and phenols increases, allowing for the development of a great storage wine. - Gerardo [TS06/22]

´Coniale´ Cabernet Sauvignon IGT 2016, Castellare di Castellina, Toskana

Coniale Cabernet Sauvignon IGT 2016

Castellare di Castellina, Tuscany

Since the 70s in Tuscany is also extremely successful Cabernet cultivation. Coniale is such a pure Cabernet Sauvignon which was aged for several months in barrique barrels. Full of aromas of elderberry and blackberry. Dense and juicy on the palate, followed by a nice cherry note and spicy finish.

Owner Paolo Panerai follows the ideal of traditional Chianti; international grape varieties such as Merlot and Cabernet are not to be found there. But Panerai is also open to noble vines from around the world. The Coniale shows what potent results an international grape variety can produce in the Chianti Classico area. - Gerardo [TS06/17]

"Blueberry, walnut, dark-chocolate and licorice aromas. Full body, chewy tannins and bright acidity." - James Suckling

"A deep, explosive wine, the Coniale (Cabernet Sauvignon) hits the palate with fabulous intensity and richness. Saddle leather, smoke, sage, rosemary and tobacco burst from the glass in a structured, imposing Cabernet Sauvignon loaded with class and personality. An exotic melange of black fruit, smoke, savory herbs, leather and tobacco resonate on the finish. There is so much to like in the 2010, a wine of true pedigree." - Antonio Galloni

"Rich, intense garnet. Hearty nose of ripe elderberries, blackcurrants and blackberries, noble spice. Dense and compact on the palate, spreads nicely, velvety, tightly woven tannin, fresh drink, punchy finish." - Falstaff

´Pietro dal Cero´ Amarone della Valpolicella DOC 2013, Cà dei Frati, Lombardei
Pietro dal Cero Amarone della Valpolicella DOC 2013

Cà dei Frati, Lombardy

Father Pietro dal Cero is dedicated this excellent Amarone, as a sign of reflection on its own roots, culture and history of the area. The siblings Igino, Gian Franco and Anna Maria dal Cero have recently acquired vineyards in Valpolicella to realize this dream there.

In the glass, this extract-rich wine shows through dark and complex ruby red. On the palate, lush fruit flavors, fine tart morello cherry mingle with chocolate to create spicy sweetness. This Amarone unfolds a powerful aromatic interplay of balsamic notes with hints of star anise and wild mint. The subtle harmonic tertiary aromas hint at sweet tobacco and coffee. - Gerardo

"Sparkling, intense ruby. Quite bulky and restrained nose, lightly of roasted hazelnuts, some white pepper, cardamom, the fruit remains in the background. Then lots of cherry fruit on the palate, unfolds with nice juice, fine mesh tannin, nice game." - Falstaff

´Marta Galli´ Amarone della Valpolicella Classico DOC 2009, Le Ragose, Venetien
Marta Galli Amarone della Valpolicella Classico DOC 2009

Le Ragose, Veneto

High quality and micro-produced Amarone from highly selected grapes of Corvina, Rondinella and Molinara varieties. Ruby red color with garnet reflections in the glass. On the nose, spices, cherry jam, almonds and some taba. Intense and persistent complex palate, soft and velvety, of great structure and harmony. - Gerardo

"The most beautiful gift for the 40th anniversary of the winery Le Ragose Paolo and Marco Galli have made themselves: Their respect and observance of local traditions are palpable in each of their bottles, as envisioned by their parents. With all their resistance, they denied the musketeers and concentration bolts access to their wine storehouse, fruit and freshness should give their growths'. - Gambero Rosso
"Intense, concentrated ruby red. Spicy nose of dark chocolate and some star anise, underpinned by subtle notes of truffle. Immediately accessible on the palate, opens on filigree spice notes, creamy melt, very long, finishes with firm pressure." - Falstaff

´Caloetto´ Amarone della Valpolicella DOC 2009, Le Ragose, Venetien
Caloetto Amarone della Valpolicella DOC 2009

Le Ragose, Veneto

From the highest point of the highest vineyard at Le Ragose comes the Amarone Caloetto. The terraced vineyard faces southeast on steep slopes and is well above the 'nebbia' (fog) common in the Veneto lower down.

This Amarone clearly shows the Le Ragose signature: wines with dense, grippy tannins and acid-supported vigor. The intense aroma is reminiscent of cherry jam, herbs and some undergrowth. The palate is dense and ripe, while being harmonious and ehed tannic. - Gerardo
