  The Sartiglia Cannonau di Sardegna from Azienda Vinicola Attilio Contini is a spirited homage to the Sardinian Cannonau grape variety—named after the historic horseback game “La Sartiglia” in Oristano, which combines tradition and energy with galloping and symbolic ring throwing. The wine is made predominantly from 90% Cannonau grapes with a small proportion of other local varieties, grown in the sandy and gravelly soils of the west coast of Sardinia, where sea breezes and Mediterranean sun give the vines their shape and character. Moderate aging takes place in the cellar—partly in stainless steel, partly in used barriques for a few months—which allows the fruit to remain in the foreground while gaining depth.

In the glass, this red wine displays a strong ruby color with brilliant reflections, an eye-catcher that hints at its origin. The nose reveals a complex bouquet of ripe cherries, red plums, and dark berries, accompanied by Mediterranean herbs, a hint of licorice, and subtle leather—all echoes of the rugged terroir and sunny island air. On the palate, Sartiglia presents polished tannins, juicy fruit, and subtle wood tones in the background - the finish is spicy, salty-mineral, and long-lasting.
