The Sàgana is a single-varietal Nero d'Avola that comes from a single, specially tended vineyard and reflects the soul of Sicily in its purest form. A brilliant ruby red with a deep black core, it shines in the glass and seduces with an intense bouquet of dark berries, spicy aromas and a hint of liquorice. On the palate, the Sàgana impresses with its rich, full-bodied fruit and wonderfully balanced freshness, which is supported by a harmonious tannin structure. Its long, elegant finish shows impressive depth and makes this wine an exceptional pleasure for connoisseurs and aficionados. - Gerardo [TS10/18]

Gerardo's Notes: Die Nero d’Avola Rebstöcke für den Sàgana zählen zu den ältesten Rebanlagen der Cusumanos. Sie gehören zu der südlich von Caltanissetta gelegenen Tenuta San Giacomo bei Butera. Die dort zu findenden, fast schneeweißen Kalkböden, genannt I Trubi, verhalfen dem Sagana auch zu seinem Beinamen „Vigneto del Torrone“, weil die Bodenstruktur mit ihren Gerölleinlagerungen aussieht wie ein torrone, der berühmten sizilianische Süßigkeit. Das Flaggschiff des Weingutes ist ein authentischer und typischer sizilianischer Nero d’Avola, der aber durch die Besonderheiten des Weinbergs eine beachtliche Frische und Eleganz aufweist. In der Fachzeitschrift VINUM stand zu lesen: „Hier wird Nero d’Avola von der Leine gelassen...“ . Der Sàgana wird 18 Monate im großen Eichenholzfass ausgebaut.
