Gerardo's Notes: 'The Nero d'Avola vines for the Sàgana are among the oldest vineyards of the Cusumanos. They belong to the Tenuta San Giacomo near Butera, located south of Caltanissetta. The almost snow-white limestone soils found there, called I Trubi, also helped the Sagana get its nickname 'Vigneto del Torrone' because the soil structure with its tannin deposits looks like a torrone, the famous Sicilian sweet. The flagship of the winery is an authentic and typical Sicilian Nero d'Avola, but with a remarkable freshness and elegance due to the particularities of the vineyard. The trade magazine VINUM said: 'Here Nero d'Avola is let off the leash...' . The Sàgana is aged for 18 months in large oak barrels.
