The Salealto, an exquisite three-part cuvée made from Insolia, Zibbibo and Grillo, masterfully expresses the rich terroir of Sicily. It glows an intense straw yellow in the glass and exudes a multi-faceted bouquet of ripe yellow fruit, delicate flowers and a hint of exotic spices. On the palate, the Salealto displays impressive power and concentration, characterized by juicy fruit and a fascinating depth. The wine shows a lively minerality that enriches the long and elegant finish and gives it an unmistakable expressiveness. Gerardo's Notes: Around 1800, King Ferdinando IV commissioned the agricultural expert Felice Lioy to develop a concept for improving the quality of viticulture in Sicily. Lioy introduced numerous technical innovations and created a cuvée for the king, whose grapes came from near the Tenuta di Ficuzza of Cusumano on the high plateau Pian degli Albesi at 700 to 800 meters above sea level. Although the 'recipe' of the same has not been handed down, Salealto is said to be reminiscent of this and is produced in the traditional way and only from autochthonous grape varieties: After a brief maceration of the must at ambient temperature, pressing is carried out and each variety is fermented separately. The cuvée is then blended and aged for about ten months on the fine lees in stainless steel tanks before the Salealto is bottled.
