St. Magdalener Classico Gütesiegel DOC 2024

  The “St. Magdalener Classico” from the Bolzano Winery is an authentic expression of the slopes around the hill of St. Magdalena near Bolzano. In the historic vineyards, the vines of the indigenous Vernatsch variety grow alongside a smaller proportion of Lagrein - a combination that gives this specialty its lightness and, at the same time, a fine color and structure. The vines are rooted in loose moraine debris and porphyry soils with a southern exposure, which brings out the terroir with its warm days and cool nights. During vinification, Vernatsch and Lagrein are harvested and fermented together, and part of the wine is aged in wooden barrels, contributing to a harmonious texture and subtle wood notes.

In the glass, St. Magdalener Classico is a light ruby red with pleasant violet reflections. Its bouquet opens with aromas of red cherries and raspberries, complemented by floral notes of violets and roses, as well as the characteristic hints of bitter almonds and marzipan that are typical of this wine tradition. On the palate, this fruitiness combines with a velvety texture; the wine is medium-bodied, round, and balanced—ideal as an accompaniment to classic South Tyrolean snacks, appetizers, meat dishes, cheese, or even pizza. - Gerardo [TS10/25]
