Flora · Chardonnay DOC 2022

  The “Flora” Chardonnay from the Girlan Winery embodies the fine art of Chardonnay vinification in the South Tyrolean wine-growing region of Oltradige. The grapes come from vineyards at an altitude of 450 to 500 meters, which thrive on mineral-rich soils of volcanic porphyry. The vines, which are 18 to 25 years old and trained using the Guyot system, benefit from a temperate climate that promotes grape ripening. After selective hand harvesting, the grapes are gently pressed whole, followed by natural clarification of the must. Alcoholic fermentation takes place in 12- and 15-hectoliter oak barrels, with malolactic fermentation harmoniously rounding off the wine. A 12-month maturation on the fine lees in the same barrels gives the wine additional complexity. Before bottling, the “Flora” Chardonnay matures for a further six months in the bottle to perfect its structure and elegance.

In the glass, Flora Chardonnay presents itself in a clear, straw-yellow color. The bouquet unfolds aromas of ripe apples, white peaches, and delicate floral notes, accompanied by hints of vanilla and butter, which indicate aging in oak. On the palate, the wine shows a balanced structure with lively freshness and mineral depth. The finish is long and smooth, making Flora Chardonnay an ideal accompaniment to refined dishes such as fish, shellfish, and poultry. With an alcohol content of approximately 13.5% vol. and a total acidity of 6.25g/l, the wine shows a fine balance between fruit and structure. - Gerardo [TS10/23]
