Barbera d'Alba Piani appears in the glass in a clear, lively ruby red colour, which already gives a visual hint of the wine's intensity and fruitiness. The nose reveals a delicate bouquet of dominant dark fruit aromas, in which juicy blackberries and plums combine with spicy accents and are accompanied by a subtle wood note that comes from ageing in oak barrels. On the palate, the wine is lively and balanced, with well-integrated, polished tannins and a lively acidity that emphasises the fruity character and gives the wine a beautiful length. The finish is harmonious and persistent, creating the impression of a ripe, structured yet fresh red wine that is both accessible and full of character.
A special feature of this Barbera is its origin in the Cerro de Piani vineyard in Ferrere, a sub-region of the Langhe, which not only gives the wine its name but also significantly influences its structure due to its bentonite-like clay soils. Due to the low clay content of the soil, the Barbera grapes here develop an unusually pleasant tannin presence and a distinctive aroma that is not always typical of Barbera wines. This location, combined with the sustainable cultivation of the vineyards and the Pelissero family's many years of experience, makes Barbera d'Alba Piani an authentic expression of the Piedmontese terroir and the region's rich winemaking tradition. - Gerardo [TS10/24]
