Merano Winery | South Tyrol
Merano, the pearl of South Tyrol: three hundred sunny days a year pamper the guests of the famous spa town. But Merano's Mediterranean climate also allows the many exquisite grape varieties to grow and flourish on the slopes of the vineyards. In the Merano winery, these are used to produce powerful, elegant and tasty wines. The Merano Winery was founded in 1952 by 42 winegrowers from the Merano area. The goal was to vinify their grapes together and market them under a unified name. Today the winery has 200 members who cultivate about 140 hectares of vines. They are all very small and manageable wineries. Their association is as much a qualitative as an economic necessity.
The Merano Winery, like other important South Tyrolean wineries, produces several lines of wine. Even before you get to their wines of the upper class of the winery, you are so taken with the quality, price and performance of the classic wines that you like to linger longer. The classic line, it goes from Pinot Blanc, Chardonnay, Sauvignon to Vernatsch, Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon, to name only the most important. The winery covers the entire grape spectrum of South Tyrol, yet its wines are not yet as well known as those of other South Tyrolean wineries.
