Salice Salentino | Classic
Salice Salentino is a sought-after red wine blend of Negroamaro and Malvasia Nera grapes with a varietal bouquet of red currants and cherries. The taste is full-bodied, soft and harmonious with medium tannins. One of the most famous guardians of traditional Apulian wine is the Agricole Vallone winery, which has been in existence since 1934. The winery is run by the Vallone sisters and owns vineyards in Flaminio, Salentino and Castelserranova. The various vineyards date back to different eras and some are up to a century old. - Gerardo [TS09/24]
"The wines from the heel of the Italian boot have caught up mightily in terms of quality. Gone are the days when these wines seemed jammy. Temperature control in the cellar has worked wonders here. Three grape varieties cover the bulk of Apulian red wines: Negroamaro, Primitivo and Nero di Troia, which in the north provides the base for Castel del Monte. The wines are consistently fresh, with lots of present fruit, but also have the fullness that one expects from the south. A sensual experience - and some offer this at a truly inviting price. A specialty of Puglia are the rosé wines. With their crisp fruit and freshness, they really make you want summer, sun and sea." - Falstaff

Anticaia · Salice Salentino Riserva DOP 2019Cantina San Donaci, Puglia
The Negroamaro as well as Malvasia Nera grapes for this Salice Salentino Riserva are traditionally raised according to the Alberello system. 'Anticaia' is then aged for 24 months in barrique barrels to develop its unique aroma: the delicate bouquet is reminiscent of fruit under alcohol with subtle notes of spicy herbs and toasted aromas. The palate is dry, soft and of present but mild tannins. A Salice as it used to be. - Gerardo [TS02/20]
