Veneto | Red Wine

About a quarter of all DOC and DOCG wines produced in Italy are produced here in over 50 areas, some of which are located close to each other. Veneto thus supplies more of these wines than any other region in Italy. The conditions for growing grapes here are also particularly favorable. A stony and calcareous soil, covered with red and brown earth, offers the vines good growing conditions, and the climate is also grape-friendly. This is because the Alps, whose foothills border the vast area to the north, protect the area from the somewhat harsher northern European weather and provide a balanced climate. The cooler zones are best suited for white grape varieties, while the warmer plains are predominantly used to grow red wines.

The most common red wine grape varieties of the Veneto include Molinara, Rondinella, Corvina, Corvinone, Teroldego, Cabernet and Merlot. - Gerardo [TS07/22]

"In the Veneto vine rally, in addition to the international plants, autochthonous representatives are currently participating in such a variety as hardly anywhere else in Italy. For example, in the province of Verona, the red Corvina, Corvinone, Rondinella, Molinara are facing the white grapes...in the province of Vicenza, in the red district, the local hero is Tai rosso - formerly Tocai rosso. In the Colli Euganei you can also find Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon, which have had the right of residence here for centuries and can therefore today be considered locals." - Slow Wine
