The Barbaresco Pora is an impressive example of how tradition and modernity can come together in a great wine. The grapes come from a particularly well-tended cru plot that was planted in 1980 - a valuable heritage that Ca' del Baio preserves with great sensitivity and a spirit of innovation. In contrast to many modern interpretations, the wine is deliberately aged in large wooden barrels, partly in the traditional way, and largely dispenses with the dominant influence of barriques. The result is a wine of a brilliant garnet-red color, with a finely nuanced bouquet of ripe red fruits, floral notes and subtle hints of spice.
On the palate, the Pora shows great clarity and depth. Strong, yet well-integrated tannins and a lively, finely balanced acidity give the wine both structure and freshness. The long, elegant finish reflects the quality of the terroir and the precision of the vinification. The style of this Barbaresco is reminiscent of the great Barolos of Piedmont - complex, long-lasting and remarkably balanced. "The Pora emerges from the ranks of the bottle regiment as the high-flyer of the year. This Barbaresco, bottled in an edition of 1000 regular and 1000 magnum bottles, is panned only a small part in new barriques.
