The pure Merlot Poggio ai Merli impressively represents the grape variety and the Tuscan terroir. The bouquet is characterized by aromas of plums, Amarena cherries and rhubarb, followed by notes of tobacco and licorice. Immensely juicy on the palate, persistent in the aftertaste. True to style and terroir.
Owner Paolo Panerai follows the ideal of traditional Chianti; international grape varieties such as Merlot and Cabernet are not found there. But Panerai is also open to noble vines from around the world. Poggio ai Merli shows what potent results an international grape variety can produce in the Chianti Classico area. - Gerardo [TS06/19]
