La Guardiola, the legendary winery on the north-eastern slopes of Mount Etna, produces a truly top wine with its Etna Rosso Guardiola, whose vines, on average 150 years old, are ungrafted and cultivated on terraces at an altitude of 900 to 1,000 meters. The terraces, supported by dry stone walls, blend harmoniously with the wild beauty of the Mediterranean scrubland, and this closeness to nature is reflected in the wine. The Etna Rosso Guardiola has a deep garnet red color and an intense bouquet of ripe berries, sandalwood and a hint of tobacco. The taste is of Burgundian finesse, fruity, velvety and at the same time mineral, with a lingering, elegant finish. A sublime wine that carries the essence of the Guardiola vineyards in an incomparable way and is considered an exceptional Etna cru. - Gerardo [TS10/17]

Gerardo's Notes: Guardiola ist einer der bekanntesten Spitzenlagen am Nordosthang des Ätnas. Die durchschnittlich 150 Jahre alten wurzelechten Rebstöcke stehen in 900 bis 1.000 Höhenmetern auf mit Trockenmauern begrenzten Terrassen, insgesamt zwei Hektar. Umrandet werden sie von Macchia und Bäumen, ein Bild von absoluter landschaftlicher Schönheit. Die Trauben werden gemahlen und vergären 18 bis 21 Tage mit den Schalen. Nach Pressung der Maische wird der Jungwein in großen Holzfässern (2.500 Liter) und Tonneaux ausgebaut. Von dieser Preziose wurden 2016 gerade mal 3.500 Flaschen produziert.
