Nino Negri's “Vigna Ca' Guicciardi” Inferno Valtellina Superiore DOCG is an impressive example of the extreme terroir of the Inferno subzone in Valtellina. The vineyard itself owes its name to the farmhouse (“Ca' Guicciardi”) located in the middle of the 10-hectare slope. Here, the vines grow on steep terraces with slopes of up to 85%, supported by some of the highest dry stone walls in the valley. The light-colored quartz-like rock reflects the sunlight particularly strongly, exposing the vines to intense heat and light and allowing them to develop their full potential. In this dramatic landscape, the indigenous Chiavennasca (= Nebbiolo) grape variety thrives under challenging conditions — a place that produces great wines through manual labor, passion, and the alpine-Mediterranean combination of cold and light.
In the glass, the wine displays a bright ruby red color with purple hues, already hinting at its depth. The bouquet seduces with intense notes of ripe black cherry, cassis, licorice, and spices such as clove and cinnamon, accompanied by violets and a mineral undertone that reflects the rock of the vineyard. On the palate, it reveals firm but elegantly integrated tannins and a pleasant warmth without seeming excessive. The expressive fruit is balanced by fresh acidity and a distinctive structure—a combination that allows for longevity while remaining immediately accessible.
