Badia a Coltibuono | Toskana
The owner of the ancient and historic monastic estate Badia a Coltibuono is the Stucchi Prinetti family - their work is the prime example of the positive evolution of wineries in Chianti Classico. The wines from Coltibuono can therefore be considered archetypes of this denomination, also because the style has remained safe and genuine over the decades. This high standard of quality is evident in every single bottle. The siblings Emanuela and Roberto have successfully set the course for the future, also thanks to the support of accomplished collaborators such as Paolo Parti, Maurizio Castelli and Luca Felicioni.
At Badia a Coltibuono (the 'Abbey of the Good Harvest'), efforts have been made since the eighties to constantly restructure the vineyards, which are located at an altitude of 300 to 500 meters. In the area of Monti in Chianti, Sangiovese vines are cultivated in double Guyot pruning as well as some companion grape varieties. With the turn of the millennium, natural cultivation has also found its way into the farm. The traditional production is mainly based on Sangiovese and other local varieties such as Malvasia nera and Colorino. - Gerardo [TS01/23]
"The Stucchi Prinetti family, owners of this ancient monastery, represents a prime example of the rapid development of wineries in Chianti Classico. The siblings Emanuela and Roberto have set the course for the future with a viticulture that respects both the environment and the consumer. The high quality standard of Badia a Coltibuono is evident in every single bottle. Not least responsible for this are the accomplished staff Paolo Parti, Maurzio Castelli and Luca Fellicioni." - Slow Wine

Badia a Coltibuono | Toskana | Buy at Gerardo
There is Chianti for all days and for Sundays, for the most beautiful social occasions, for meetings with best friends. And the Chianti whose best Riservas are considered superior. It is not difficult to guess which Chianti we are talking about, because this wine from the production of Coltibuono is probably the only one that has an assortment of great vintages and with such fulminate international success.
Great and so different from the reputation that sometimes still accompanies Chianti, a good wine for all days, because it never gets over you. Different for its elegance, for its intense red color, for the harmony that surprises even the inexperienced wine connoisseur. Different, but always unchanged and unmistakable Chianti Classico, because in the vineyard and cellar tradition is respected. In this area of Gaiole in Chianti, where wine has been pressed since at least the 9th century, when the abbey was built for Benedictine monks of Vallombrosa, they have preserved the sense of an incomparable, unrivaled Chianti. That is why you can find there vineyards more than twenty years old, which, although they produce lower yields, give the very best grape qualities and allow the re-grafting of the same clones. An extensive land holdings that allowed the planting of vines in the best locations. At Badia a Coltibuono, the grapes are harvested with the utmost care and always by hand in three or four passes to select only the best. The pressing is carried out with long maceration on the skins at controlled temperature in stainless steel vats. This is followed by aging in oak barrels and refinement in bottle.
Chianti Classico Riservas created in this way are then awarded the highest recognitions at the most prestigious, international competitions. But at Badia a Coltibuono they don't just make Chianti Classico. This great estate produces the best products for tables all over the world. We would like to give here only a rough idea of what this little paradise between Florence and Siena has to offer, where Chianti wine was already being pressed a century before the foundation of the Chianti League in 1250. A history without interruptions, despite the many eventful historical events in such a long time. - Gerardo [TS01/23]
"Those who think in pigeonholes will have little to do with Badia a Coltibuono. The winery is housed in an ancient abbey - yet breathes the spirit of modernity. Its wine can look back on a hundred years of tradition - and yet it is completely up to date. Emanuele Stucchi Prinetti keeps his family estate running with clear objectives. He has converted all the vineyards to near-natural cultivation, but he has also changed the style of his products, making them more accessible." - Gambero Rosso
