  Camigliano's Gualto Brunello di Montalcino Riserva represents the highest art of Brunello and brings to the fore everything that Sangiovese Grosso has to offer in the best locations. The wine is made exclusively from 100% Sangiovese Grosso and comes from the winery's best vineyards - soils with sandy clay, fossils, marl, and abundant limestone provide an excellent terroir. The vines are densely planted (around 5,000 vines/ha) and trained using the spurred cordon method, which helps to control yields and harvest the grapes as late as possible when they are fully ripe. Special attention is also paid to refinement: gentle pressing, temperature-controlled fermentation with moderate stirring and pumping, and usually a maceration period of 15-25 days, depending on the vintage and region.

The aging process is classic and designed for longevity: Gualto matures for 36 months in large oak barrels (approx. 30 hectoliters) and is then aged for at least two years in the bottle before going on sale. This maturation phase allows the aromas to develop elegantly - often revealing notes of ripe cherries, red forest fruits, tobacco, undergrowth, and Mediterranean herbs - along with a pronounced but finely woven tannin structure. The moderate acidity and respectful wood give the wine strength and remarkable aging potential: Gualto Riserva remains consistent over the years - even over a decade - and develops increasing complexity. - Gerardo [TS10/17]
