  The “Flor Vernaccia di Oristano DOC” from Azienda Vinicola Attilio Contini in Sardinia is a wine of exceptional origin and distinctive character: it is aged in traditional Sardinian caratello barrels, which are deliberately not filled to capacity so that a protective layer of yeast (“flor”) forms on the surface of the wine—which is precisely where this wine gets its name. Grown in the salt- and lime-rich soils of the province of Oristano, it combines Mediterranean fruit with oxidative aging that develops depth, structure, and subtle spice.

In the glass, Flor displays a warm golden yellow color with amber highlights, a visual indication of its maturity and origin. The nose reveals aromas of almonds and almond blossoms, dried apricots, candied orange peel, and a delicate salt minerality, accompanied by subtle oxidative notes reminiscent of fine sherry. On the palate, this wine is dry, with a polished structure and distinctive character: the tannins are elegantly integrated, the texture dense and earthy-salty, and the finish long and impressive—a wine that pairs perfectly with aged cheese, roasted nuts, or even as a meditative soloist in the glass. - Gerardo [TS10/21]
